Your Mind is Powerful

A new thing I keep telling my son, "your mind is powerful." I tell him this so he knows that he has control over his thoughts. I sometimes even tell him to consider how his mind can help him.

For example, if he's having a hard time falling asleep, sometimes he will say, "I can't sleep! I can't sleep!" 😴 First, I will validate how he's feeling and tell him that I see he's having a hard time calming his body and mind. And then I say, "whisper to yourself: I can sleep, I am calm, I am cozy, I am soooo sleepy."

🌸 We can use this tactic too, mamas! We can validate our own feelings and then we can change our thoughts. For example, if I'm frustrated with my son, I can acknowledge the feelings that are coming up for me. And then I can tell myself a new story, about him or about me.
